Summer is winding down, and many of us want to get that last weekend at the beach in before the leaves start falling. I always feel a little guilty about neglecting my practice when I take a vacation, so I try to do some work in small intervals in order to stay productive while I relax. These five applications listed below are extremely useful for staying connected even from the beach! They are all available via the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store or come already installed in your mobile device.
Mobile Hotspot Mobile Hotspots (available through all major carriers) allow you to convert your phone into a WiFi broadcasting center that tablets and laptops can connect to. Charges for use of this feature typically average about $10 per gigabyte of data depending on your carrier.
Google Drive The premier free cloud storage. Google Drive supports word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and picture files. The Google Drive app will allow you to view files you own or are shared with you simply by logging in to your Google account. To edit files, however, you will need to download supporting applications: Google Docs for word files, Google Slides for presentations, etc.
Cam Scanner A very handy app for converting pictures of documents into PDFs. Forget fishing through your wallet to find that business card someone handed you two months ago! I use cam scanner whenever I’m handed a document or business card when I am out of the office. Just take a picture, and the image is automatically cropped, analyzed for recognizable text, and uploaded to Google Drive.
CRM Apps Client relationship management systems are used by nearly all law firms in the present day. What many people don’t know is that many of these CRM systems have accessory mobile applications. These applications do not typically have all of the features of the full program, but they can be useful for virtually checking in with your ongoing projects and seeing any updates, right from under your umbrella!
Meeting Burner Hard to hear check-in phone calls are a thing of the past. Meeting Burner is an excellent virtual meeting app loaded with features: schedule meetings, screen sharing, and stream video. The free version supports cross-platform meeting (between phone and computers for example), and supports up to 10 attendees.
