The Philadelphia area is getting hit hard this winter. From heavy rains and flooding to thick snow and ice, we’re enduring tough weather obstacles on a regular basis.
When facing conditions like this, it is important to employ safe driving practices. Now, I could go down the list of specific do’s and don’ts, but they are listed on my site already. In this post, I want to point out Pennsylvania Vehicle Code Law 3720 and show how it applies to auto accident lawsuits.
Pennsylvania Vehicle Code Law 3720
It is a common sight on I-76, Route 1, and other roads around town: a car or truck speeding down the road as dangerous sheets of ice and snow fly off its windshield, hood, or roof. These situations are extremely dangerous; the offending vehicle is endangering everyone around it. And it is illegal. In Pennsylvania, vehicle code law 3720 says drivers can be fined $200-$1,000 if snow or ice flies from their vehicle and strikes another vehicle or pedestrian, causing death or serious bodily injury.
From a legal standpoint, the driver of the offending vehicle could be held liable if the snow/ice from the car causes an accident. If you or someone you know crashed a vehicle because of a situation similar to this, contact my office and tell me the story. You may have a case.

It is also important to drive at the speed limit, keep plenty of distance between yourself and other vehicles, and remember to drive defensively.
